After reading about Beethoven's life in our Bible lesson this week, it is surprising that he even became a composer of music.  In Beethoven's music he has expressed sadness but he also has many joyful songs as well.  How is this possible?  How could Beethoven even have any joy in his life?

What tight spot have you found yourself in at this school?  (Remember, this should be an anonymous response!)

Write about your reaction to the story of Apollo 8.  How do you think everyone in the world would have felt when they heard the broadcast from the astronauts on Apollo 8 when they had completed their first orbit of the moon?  Do you think this changed everyone's thinking on what human kind can accomplish? 

How does this compare to your point of view in this world having been born and growing up in an age where getting a man to the moon has already been accomplished?

What kinds of lifeskills would the astronauts need to develop in order to be successful at what they do? 

If you lived back in 1968, would you be willing to be the first to fly a space craft 384 403km away with the technology and computer guidance systems they had at the time?  You have way more computing power in your pocket in an iPod than Houston had in their entire control station. 

How would you have reacted if it was your dad that was one of the astronauts 384 403km away, not knowing for sure if that one and only engine would fire to bring your dad back home?

Esperanza's heart was filling with venom towards Tui Luis. 

1) How would you feel towards someone like Tui Luis after knowing he burned your house and possible was involved with killing your father?

2) Do you think it is a good thing to hate someone so much that your heart would "fill with venom"?  Why or why not?

After reading the book "David Livingstone" write a blog about what you think about him as a person and about his life as a missionary.  In your blog please address each set of questions.  You may write more about whatever comes to your mind about the book you read.  (Please write with your name attached to your responses because you are then to read some of your classmates responses and then write a response to what they have written or commented on.)

Is it a good thing that God has created people like David who is willing to wander so far away from home? 

What about you?  Would you be willing to go far away if God has called you to?  Would you like to help out in a third world country some day to help people that are much less fortunate than us? 

Would you be willing to talk about Jesus to other people?  Would you be willing to teach about God's promises and that He plans to come back and take us to Heaven to live forever?

1) After reading the story about John Newton, list some ways God showed grace to him.  How did Newton pass that on to others?

2) List some of the ways God has shown grace to you.

David Livingstone went through an experience (his first sermon) that was quite embarrasing.  He was standing in front of an entire congregation of people ready to deliver a sermon and didn't even remember one word.  He felt terrible and took off and never looked back until he got to his boarding room. 

Mr. Gabrys has also gone through a totally embarrasing moment singing at a special youth rally.  After beginning the song he skipped an entire verse and when the background vocals came in singing different words he was so embarrased that he walked off stage and left the meeting tent.

1) Have you ever gone through an embarrising moment similar to this one?  How did you feel?  Even if you haven't experienced something similar to this, can you imagine how you might feel.  Please write about this.

2) Should we ever let moments like this prevent us from ever trying again?  Why or why not?
